It appears that Jigsaw’s reign might have truly reached its end. Reports have emerged indicating that Saw 11 is embroiled in a producer conflict, resulting in an indefinite pause and possible cancellation.

Originally slated for a September release, progress on the movie has been absent since early 2024, as shared by co-writer Patrick Melton. “We’ve heard nothing since May. It’s stalled at a managerial level,” he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter. “This has nothing to do with the creative aspects. There are larger issues at play.”

Melton and collaborator Marcus Dunstan completed a draft of the horror sequel in May 2024. Both have been contributors to the Saw series since its fourth installment, providing them with a profound comprehension of the narrative involving Jigsaw. Their latest story takes a socially aware approach reminiscent of Saw 6, where Jigsaw targeted health insurance companies.

“We crafted a very relevant story, and I hope it sees the light of day because of its timeliness. It resonates with the same themes from Saw VI, capturing the essence of a frustrated citizen feeling powerless, and John Kramer stepping in,” Melton elaborates.

The delay is attributed to “inter-squabbling” between Lionsgate and producers, with Melton noting the future of Saw 11 is uncertain. Another perspective from Bloody Disgusting strikes a more dire tone.

“It’s completely over. It’s 100% done. It’s been almost a year now,” shared a source with Bloody Disgusting. According to them, the disruption began in January 2024, due to a divergence between two producers — one eager to move forward, while the other stalled progress, with no resolution from Lionsgate.

This source predicts that if another Saw film emerges, it will be a fresh start in some capacity. This is unfortunate, especially after the success of Saw 10 in 2023, which brought back Tobin Bell’s John Kramer to the forefront after Spiral, rekindling interest in the franchise.

The possibility looms that we could wait several years for a new mainline sequel. Kevin Greutert, experienced with multiple Saw sequels, was poised to direct. Stay tuned for updates.
