Avengers: Doomsday promises to be the most epic superhero collaboration since Avengers: Endgame. Given the myriad characters, it’s no wonder that the creative minds behind the film face a bit of a challenge keeping everyone organized. Thankfully, they’ve developed a brilliant system to assist them—a collection of baseball cards.
In a recent discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo brothers, who will be directing both Doomsday and its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, elaborated on this innovative approach already utilized in their previous MCU projects.
Anthony Russo affirmed, “Yes, we continue to use the baseball cards.” Adding to this, Joe Russo noted, “Now they have magnets on them so we can put ’em on a board and look at ’em,” which he emphasized is “the only way to keep track of the amount of characters that we’re working with.”
Anthony further explained, “As far as how do we look at who’s in the movies, it’s just a long creative process of exploring where we want to take the story. What is the most surprising and exciting area for us to push into, and which characters help us in that effort?”
The duo has played a pivotal role in crafting the most star-studded films within the Marvel universe, from Captain America: Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War to the last two Avengers movies. They are set to make a thrilling return to the franchise with the much-anticipated Doomsday, slotted for release next year.
Even though most specifics are under wraps, the Russo brothers have provided subtle hints about the next chapter. They’ve dismissed recent speculation that Avengers: Doomsday concept art leaked, clarifying there’s “nothing spoiling” in the images, and shed light on the comic books that influenced them, which could elucidate the presence of Doctor Doom.
