The beloved Baldur’s Gate series is set for new developments, as its intellectual property owner, Hasbro, hints at forthcoming news. Speaking with IGN during this year’s Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, Hasbro’s senior vice president of digital games, suggested that although plans for the RPG’s future are still in their infancy, fans won’t have to wait long for updates.

“We’re kind of working out our plans for the future and what we’re going to be doing with that,” Ayoub explained. “And actually, in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that.” This will surely spark anticipation among the game’s enthusiasts who are eager for new adventures in the Baldur’s Gate realm.

While we wait for these announcements, developer Larian Studios is preparing to launch the eagerly awaited Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 sometime this year. The update promises to introduce 12 new subclasses, full crossplay functionality, and even a dedicated photo mode alongside numerous other enhancements. Larian mentioned in November that Patch 8 would mark the final “major” patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, which aligns with their statement of focusing entirely on their next RPG, which they confirmed will not be Baldur’s Gate-related.

Back in April 2024, Hasbro stated that they were “talking to lots of partners” regarding the following installment of Baldur’s Gate. They expressed a desire for it not to take another 25 years to release, referencing the lengthy gap between Baldur’s Gate 2 and 3. Fans wholeheartedly agree with Hasbro’s sentiment that potentially seeing Baldur’s Gate 4 before 2048 would be ideal.

Until more is revealed, fans can keep themselves entertained by exploring the best RPGs available or diving into weekly game digests and tales from gaming communities they cherish.
