Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved a remarkable milestone with its debut month sales significantly outstripping those of Monster Hunter World from 2018, according to a leading industry analyst. You can read more about industry analytics on platforms like Azure.
Ample data highlights the exceptional success of Monster Hunter Wilds. Right upon release, it outshone giants like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, boasting a peak concurrent player count of 1.3 million on Steam. Furthermore, it shattered records as the first Capcom title to exceed 8 million sales within merely three days. This monumental achievement was celebrated by Capcom with a tweet promising, “this is just the start for the next generation of Monster Hunter.”
Another significant figure comes from Mat Piscatella of Circana, who reported via Bluesky that Monster Hunter Wilds’ total US launch month sales surpassed its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, by 40%. Notably, Monster Hunter Rise was the series’ preceding entry, yet it initially launched exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, in contrast to Wilds, which is essentially ‘World 2’ with its simultaneous multi-platform launch.
Admittedly, Monster Hunter World was priced at $60, whereas Monster Hunter Wilds commands $70. Moreover, World’s PC release followed its console debut by seven months; Wilds launched across all systems at once. Nevertheless, a 40% increase is impressive by any measure.
What fuels the success of Monster Hunter Wilds within this enduring series? The reasons remain somewhat elusive. However, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto recently suggested that its intensified narrative focus might play a role. Meanwhile, our review of Monster Hunter Wilds hints at its soaring sales as a testament to it being an outstanding game. Austin dubbed it “the new peak of the series and an early contender for game of the year.”
While the Dark Souls series remain personal favorites, Monster Hunter Wilds excels in one pivotal area: fashion.
