Nathan Fillion has given fans a glimpse of what to anticipate from his portrayal of Green Lantern in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. When asked by TV Guide about the distinctive aspects of his Guy Gardner, Fillion exclaimed, “He’s a jerk!”

He explained, “What’s important to know is, you don’t have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless.” Fillion elaborated, “Guy Gardner is fearless, and he isn’t very good. He’s not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you can just consider the most selfish, self-serving action in the moment. That’s your answer. That’s what you do. If he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he believes he can take on Superman. Spoiler alert: he can’t!”

Fillion’s debut as Guy Gardner happens in Superman, marking the first major film of the revamped DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. As a peacekeeper within the Green Lantern Corps, he dons the infamous bowl cut familiar to comic book fans.

Meanwhile, a much-anticipated HBO series, Lanterns, will dive into the tales of other Green Lantern members such as Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, and John Stewart, portrayed by Aaron Pierre. Filming is underway, and the series is slated for a 2026 premiere.

In addition to Fillion, the Superman film boasts an ensemble cast, including David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with introducing Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
