An intense, unaltered fight scene from DC’s discontinued Batgirl movie has made a surprise appearance online, showcasing Batgirl in action reminiscent of Daredevil. It features Barbara Gordon taking on criminals with ferocity and style.
Shared on Twitter by DC Film News, the clip stars Leslie Grace as Batgirl fiercely battling a group of villains in a rundown setting. Despite facing off against physically larger foes, she holds her ground effectively. Adding a touch of humor, the scene includes Batgirl crashing through a wall into a bathroom, startling a man preoccupied on the toilet.
Although the footage is raw, complete with visible harness cables, it tantalizes fans with a glimpse of what could have been had Batgirl not been scrapped nearly three years back. The response from fans has been enthusiastic; one commented on the authenticity of the fights, while another expressed excitement, saying, “Wait a minute this kinda fire.”
Development of a movie based on the DC comics’ character Barbara Gordon originated in 2017, but the project faced several challenges, including a rewrite in 2018 and director changes in 2021. In a drastic turn of events in August 2022, it was completely canceled for cost-cutting despite being “literally completely finished,” with finalized VFX, according to a Batgirl crew member.
The film, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, was intended to narrate the story of a young vigilante, daughter to James Gordon, Gotham’s police commissioner, who juggles her dual life. Notable stars such as J. K. Simmons, Jacob Scipio, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton, and Ivory Aquino were set to feature in the movie.
