An intriguing fight scene from DC’s shelved Batgirl film has surfaced online, showcasing Barbara Gordon taking on criminals in a style reminiscent of Daredevil.
The clip, shared by DC Film News on Twitter, features Leslie Grace as Batgirl, bravely battling a group of thugs in a dimly lit room. Despite being tossed around, she skillfully handles the physically imposing adversaries. Adding a touch of humor, Batgirl dramatically breaks through a wall, surprising a man in a bathroom. Even though the video is unpolished, with safety cables visible, it offers a tantalizing glimpse of the film we missed out on when DC decided to cancel Batgirl nearly three years ago. This snippet has only intensified fans’ desire to see the movie, with comments like, “Fights actually look believable,” and “Wait a minute this kinda fire,” echoing across social media.
Development on the DC hero Barbara Gordon‘s adaptation began in 2017. However, the DCEU project encountered several setbacks, including a script overhaul in 2018 and directorial changes in 2021. Ultimately, in August 2022, the project met its end due to budgetary constraints, despite being “literally completely finished” with “VFX and everything,” as noted by a Batgirl team member.
The film, helmed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, was set to explore the life of the young vigilante, who is also the daughter of Gotham’s police commissioner, James Gordon. The cast was to include J. K. Simmons, Jacob Scipio, Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton, and Ivory Aquino.
