Following a six-film series and an unsuccessful reboot attempt, Hollywood is venturing once more with a fresh Resident Evil movie, potentially casting a star from the Euphoria ensemble. According to the The Hollywood Reporter, Austin Abrams, known for portraying Ethan in the popular series, might soon be plunged into a world of undead chaos in an exciting new project already boasting some remarkable talent.

This announcement follows news that the talented Barbarian director, Zach Cregger, will be penning and directing a brand new adaptation of the cherished survival horror game series. His recent hit featured stars like Bill Skarsgård and Georgina Thompson. As Cregger finishes touching up his upcoming film, Weapons, a multi-story horror saga revolving around the mysterious disappearances of high school students, the rising star, Abrams appears in it alongside big names such as Josh Brolin and Julia Garner.

Though discussions are still in the early stages, given the current momentum, developments might happen swiftly. With Sony eager to launch this zombie-infested ride, Cregger is already in Europe scouting potential filming locations.

Considering this particular direction, there is speculation whether the new take on the franchise might diverge from familiar landscapes like Raccoon City and instead explore more remote, derelict areas reminiscent of games like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village. Furthermore, having already introduced a monstrously enormous she-beast in Barbarian, could Cregger plan to bring Lady Dimitrescu to life on screen? We hope not, as the memes that followed her first appearance were excessive enough!
