Paul Rudd remains intrigued by a particularly infamous fan theory from the Avengers universe: the so-called ‘Thanus’ theory. If this doesn’t immediately jog your memory, allow us to remind you of its premise.
Back around the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, fans concocted what they believed to be the ultimate strategy to defeat Thanos. The idea was simple yet outrageous: all Ant-Man had to do was shrink to a minuscule size, venture into Thanos’ rear, and then expand back to normal size, thereby destroying the villain from the inside out. Naturally, this scenario didn’t come to pass in the film, but it continues to amuse Rudd, who discussed it in an interview with ComicBook.
“I often wonder, though, could he really have stopped Thanos in that way?” Rudd mused. “Because didn’t he, at that point, have the Space Stone or whatever?” His curiosity piqued further conversation with his Death of a Unicorn co-star, Jenna Ortega, as he inquired, “Do you know what we’re talking about? There was a theory—going against Thanos, why didn’t Ant-Man just… instead of Thanos, it was ‘Thanus’, go up Thanos and then expand.”
Moving beyond the Quantum realm, Rudd stars alongside Ortega in the upcoming film, Death of a Unicorn. The duo portrays Elliot and Ridley, a father and daughter whose journey to a corporate retreat takes a dark turn after accidentally hitting a unicorn foal with their car. The incident prompts a dangerous reaction from the unicorn’s parents when Elliot’s boss attempts scientific tests on the foal.
Death of a Unicorn is set to hit US theaters on March 28 and UK cinemas on April 4. Meanwhile, you can catch up on 2025’s upcoming movie releases to stay in the loop with the latest cinematic arrivals.
