The eagerly awaited first update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows rolls out today, featuring a brief patch note summary yet surprisingly hefty download sizes for what is essentially a minor hotfix.

Dubbed Title Update 1.0.1, this hotfix addresses several platform-specific issues. According to the announcement on Steam, it has primarily resolved some “global issues.” On the PS5, a problem with photo mode that “could cause a crash when fetching photos to display on the world map” has been fixed, and for PC users, another photo mode fix tackles an “issue that could cause a crash when taking a photo.” However, Ubisoft remains vague about the exact nature of these “global issues,” sparking curious speculation among players.

Having spent nearly 15 hours exploring Assassin’s Creed Shadows, I have encountered only a limited number of minor glitches, which is quite remarkable for a game of this open-world magnitude. If you have faced more significant problems, this hotfix might be your remedy.

Contrary to its concise patch notes, the update demands a substantial download size, varying with each platform. For Windows PCs, it’s a hefty 7.03GB, reaching up to 9GB on Mac, and weighing in at 8.88GB on the Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, PS5 users enjoy a more manageable 1.41GB download.

This update goes live on March 25 at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 6pm GMT, so depending on when you’re reading this, you might want to check for its availability.

As the game’s cinematic director puts it, “We really wanted you to live this history,” emphasizing that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is heavily centered around “perspective.” Stay tuned for more content, including weekly digests and captivating stories from your favorite gaming communities.
