The Witcher 4 and Naughty Dog’s latest creation are not expected to hit shelves until at least 2027. This delay comes on the heels of impressive unveilings at The Game Awards 2024, where both were introduced through richly detailed trailers. Sadly, these visual spectacles consisted only of ‘in-engine’ CGI cutscenes, suggesting that actual gameplay is still a distant reality.

According to CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz, the timeline for The Witcher 4 exceeds the company’s initial expectations. He informed investors during a fiscal earnings meeting that the release won’t meet the company’s first incentive target deadline by December 31, 2026.

Meanwhile, esteemed journalist Jason Schreier added that Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is also facing a similar delay. Known for its high-concept narrative, the game explores a new sci-fi universe where a woman voyages on a perilous mission across unfamiliar terrain. According to director Neil Druckmann, the project is still “evolving and changing” despite being five years into its development.

Both titles reflect the growing trend of blockbuster games requiring longer development periods due to their increasing complexity and cost. If you can’t wait for 2027, you might want to explore upcoming titles for 2025 and beyond, offering a rich tapestry of experiences in the gaming world.
