Ubisoft, the developer behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has made quite the statement by responding to social media giant Elon Musk after he labeled their latest RPG a “terrible game”. This exchange took place on Musk’s own social media platform, marking a bold move by the gaming company.
Elon Musk sparked this interaction when he tweeted criticisms about Assassin’s Creed Shadows, particularly addressing streamer Hasan Piker. Piker, who had marked his stream as promotional content, was called a “fraud” by Musk, who added: “‘Sell-out’ would be more accurate. Objectively, he is promoting a terrible game just for the money.”
In a witty reply, the official Assassin’s Creed account retorted: “Is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?” This playful jab quickly gained popularity, amassing over 456k likes. Writer and comedian Mike Drucker commented, “it turns out the real assassins were the social media managers we met along the way,” which resonated with many and aptly described the situation.
This remark harks back to earlier game-related antics involving Path of Exile 2‘s early access debut. During a stream in January, Musk played as an advanced hardcore character, but sharp-eyed Reddit users noticed inconsistencies suggesting he might not be as adept as portrayed. Rumors swirled when reports surfaced about Musk allegedly admitting to using account-boosting services for Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4 in private messages with YouTuber NikoWrex, as mentioned in Forbes.
This humorous exchange seems to have worked in Ubisoft’s favor, with numerous fans expressing newfound interest in purchasing Shadows. “Was gonna wait for a sale but nah y’all have earned this,” a fan wrote. The RPG has already witnessed enormous popularity, boasting over two million players shortly after its launch. Ubisoft recently expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating they are “truly overwhelmed by the incredible support and enthusiasm we’ve received.”
