During the latest Nintendo Direct for March 2025, the gaming world was introduced to an exciting new app named Nintendo Today. This app is a hub for updates about the Switch 2 and other intriguing content. In a surprising move, Nintendo used the app to announce the release date for the much-anticipated Zelda movie. What caught my attention, however, was the inclusion of guidance for vintage games, notably offering tips for the original Super Mario Bros. released for the NES.

With Nintendo Today, users can tailor their experience by selecting game series of interest. If you’re among the fans who selected Mario, you might discover an entry on “guide to the world of Super Mario,” focusing on the inaugural world of the NES classic. Nintendo describes: “The first world of the Mushroom Kingdom” where “Goombas and Koopa Troopas stand in your way in challenging courses above and below ground.”

The guide features screenshots like the mid-air platforms of 1-3 and the ultimate Bowser encounter in 1-4, followed by a helpful tip: “Climb above the last ceiling using the lift in World 1-2 to find pipes leading to Worlds 2, 3, and 4.” For longtime gamers, myself included, who grew up with an NES, it seems intuitive to know the warp zone location in World 1. However, there are undoubtedly new generations in 2025 exploring the classic via the Nintendo Switch Online library.

The app’s selection also includes a “Classics” category, iconized by an 8-bit Mario image. Although nothing has shown up in my feed from that section yet, anticipation builds for what might be revealed. Personally, I hope for some insightful tips for Clu Clu Land. Intrigued?
