Assassin’s Creed Shadows already offers various difficulty settings for both stealth and combat, but Ubisoft is considering pushing the boundaries even further.

During a discussion at the 2025 Game Developer’s Conference with GamesRadar+, creative director Jonathon Dumont highlighted that the team is constantly ‘listening and monitoring’ player feedback to address bugs and make adjustments in their expansive Feudal Japan-set open world.

An ongoing debate surrounds the game’s difficulty—or lack thereof for some die-hard fans—as Dumont notes the developers are ‘actively looking at’ the possibility of introducing an even more challenging difficulty setting. He even teases Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ most dedicated players: ‘How challenging do you want it? We’re keeping an eye on the community and what they say about the game.’

Currently, players can select from easy, normal, and expert difficulty levels for both combat and stealth. Increasing the difficulty in stealth makes adversaries more vigilant, so carelessly traversing rooftops becomes a greater risk. Imagining how Ubisoft might heighten this challenge even more is both thrilling and daunting.

The team is committed to addressing the ‘constructive feedback’ gathered from players. ‘Obviously, we can’t implement everything, but there are certain aspects we’re focusing on for upcoming updates with numerous bug fixes and small enhancements,’ Dumont stated. ‘I can’t specify each one, but there are significant improvements. Our team is dedicated to enhancing the game, and hopefully, players will notice the changes in the coming months.’

The delays of Assassin’s Creed Shadows primarily served to polish the RPG, as confirmed by the creative director, rather than making profound changes following the reception of Star Wars Outlaws.
