Starfield for the PS5 has long been a buzz in the gaming community. The anticipation only grew when Microsoft announced that some Xbox games would see releases on alternative platforms. Titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves marked the beginning of this trend. Despite Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Forza Horizon 5, and Doom: The Dark Ages preparing for their launches on PlayStation, Starfield’s debut remains unannounced. Yet, Xbox chief Phil Spencer hasn’t dismissed the idea entirely.
Tom Warren, editor at The Verge, spoke on The Xbox Two podcast, revealing that a PS5 release for Starfield was initially planned. He mentioned, “They were originally going to do it with that expansion, and then I don’t know what happened there,” pertaining to the Shattered Space expansion that launched in September 2024. With a second expansion announced for this year, Todd Howard hinted it could accompany a PS5 release, as Warren noted, “They have been working on it for a while, so it should be ready.”
The podcast also delved into the possibility of Halo: The Master Chief Collection reaching Nintendo Switch and PS5. Despite the speculation, Warren clarified, “I don’t know if it’s going to be [the] collection,” casting doubts over the comprehensive release as it exists. Co-host Rand al Thor 19 questioned, “not like the collection as it exists right now?” Warren’s response, “I wouldn’t think of it [as] every game,” further fueled curiosity.
There is speculation about a reimagined Halo: Combat Evolved hinted by Warren’s mention of the “CE stuff.” For now, it seems the complete Master Chief journey, including ODST and Reach, will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC players. Tragically, PlayStation users will miss gems like ODST.
Bethesda recently reassured its dedicated fan base with promises of “a lot of exciting things planned” for Starfield this year, leaving gamers eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.
