Doom: The Dark Ages is set for release next month, much to the delight of gaming enthusiasts. This eagerly anticipated title promises an abundance of content, boasting an impressive 22 levels which will undoubtedly keep fans of the FPS genre deeply engaged.
This exciting development was revealed by content creator Tyler McVicker, who recently had a chat with the game’s director Hugo Martin regarding the upcoming title from id Software. McVicker’s latest video divulges that players can expect to experience the thrill of “four dragon encounters and three Atlan encounters.” Interestingly, the Atlan encounters serve as unique levels in themselves, while the dragon encounters maintain the traditional Doom Slayer gameplay but with dragons facilitating player movement between areas.
For context, the last major Doom title, Doom Eternal, offered 13 levels sans DLC, a fact that is paralleled in 2016’s Doom. Consequently, Doom: The Dark Ages is poised to nearly double the level count seen in recent franchise entries. This expansion of content could potentially impact the game’s total playtime—Doom Eternal‘s primary storyline takes approximately 14.5 hours to complete, while its predecessor averages around 11.5 hours. The director hinted in an IGN interview that each level in the upcoming game might last about an hour, potentially estimating a campaign duration exceeding 20 hours.
