Dexter: Original Sin, the intriguing prequel to Showtime’s acclaimed horror-drama, has officially been given the green light for a second season. Deadline reports that preparations for season 2 are underway, with the writers’ room scheduled to convene soon and filming set to commence either later this year or in early 2026.

In Dexter: Original Sin, we delve into the transformation of Dexter Morgan (portrayed by Paddy Gibson) from a student into a cunning vigilante serial killer. When Dexter can no longer suppress his violent instincts, his adoptive father, Harry (played by Christian Slater), assists him in harnessing his innate darkness. Fans of the original Showtime series will recall Harry’s pivotal role in creating a ‘special code’ for Dexter, guiding him to target murderers, traffickers, and an assortment of vile individuals, all while evading capture. This becomes especially challenging for the young Dexter as he embarks on a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, unknowingly honing his skills for his secret crusade.

The series has received mixed feedback from both critics and audiences, achieving a 68% critics score and a 76% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Notably, it premiered to an impressive 2.1 million viewers, setting a viewing record for Showtime. The cast includes talents like Christian Slater, Christina Milian, Molly Brown, Jasper Lewis, Patrick Dempsey, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

The brainchild of Clyde Phillips, who guided the first season of the original series as well as Dexter: New Blood, this prequel promises to expand the Dexter universe further. Excitingly, yet another Dexter spinoff is on the horizon.

For those eager to dive into the series, Dexter: Original Sin is currently available for streaming on Paramount Plus. Stay tuned for more developments in the TV landscape, including our list of the best new TV shows coming your way in 2025 and beyond.
