Marvel is making a bold move by ending the current Deadpool comic series in June with the release of Deadpool #15—a significant landmark as it doubles as Deadpool #350. However, fans need not worry as the beloved Merc With a Mouth will continue to entertain in a freshly relabeled series titled Wolverines and Deadpools. This upcoming three-issue limited edition brings together Logan and his daughter Laura Kinney with Wade Wilson and his daughter Ellie.

The duo behind the scenes, Writer Cody Ziglar and artist Rogê Antônio, are set to transition from the solo Deadpool comic to this new series, carrying forward the story of Wade Wilson and Ellie. Ellie’s fascinating role as a temporary Deadpool fills in the time when Wade was, quite unimaginably, dead (it’s all part of the wild charm of comics!).

You might be scratching your head about the title Wolverines and Deadpools. Well, it hints at multiple versions of the heroes parading through the pages. Coincidentally or not, this mirrors Marvel’s current publishing of Deadpool and Wolverine, coinciding with the prospect of a colossal summer 2024 movie sharing the same premise.

In all my years of comic reading dating back to the ’80s, it’s a rarity for Marvel to delve so deeply into a single character duo with such a plethora of titles. It’s almost a challenge to keep up and to determine which of these stories hit the mark. The last year alone has been saturated with several Deadpool/Wolverine limited series.

This is part of a broader trend as Marvel seems to favor retiring ongoing series only to resurrect them in new forms. Consider the ongoing saga of Scarlet Witch, whose storyline has seen numerous revivals with fresh themes in only the past couple of years.

Regardless, Ziglar and Antônio have certainly enjoyed their stint with the current Deadpool series. So, there’s every reason to hope that Wolverines and Deadpools will shine as a unique daddy-daughter adventure featuring two iconic duos. Let’s just hope Marvel’s publication tactics don’t stall the much-anticipated momentum.

Wolverines and Deadpools #1 will hit shelves on July 2, graced with a main cover by Alessandro Cappuccio and a variant by Taurin Clarke.
