After months filled with leaks, speculation, and significant hints from Nintendo, it has finally been confirmed: the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con will come equipped with mouse controls.

During those tense months when avid fans craved any news about the Nintendo Switch 2, a plethora of rumors and patents surfaced suggesting this innovative feature might be integrated. The speculation grew stronger when the official reveal depicted a controller smoothly sliding across a floor during the presentation. This much-anticipated news has now been confirmed by Nintendo in their recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.

The mouse controls are built into the Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers and work in tandem. The live stream showcased a captivating display of a player utilizing dual mouse controls. One of the new features highlighted was a fascinating wheelchair basketball multiplayer game, called Drag and Drive. Players engage by maneuvering both Joy-Cons as mice to navigate wheel movements while employing the built-in gyroscope for shooting baskets.

This technology was further displayed in Nintendo’s new Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour game. Serving as Nintendo’s interpretation of Astro’s Playroom, it featured a mini-golf game alongside other minigames and tech demos like Maraca shaking, not to mention a challenge where players guide a UFO through a treacherous minefield.

Besides these showcases, Nintendo demonstrated several upcoming games supporting mouse controls. The Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Super Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond are noteworthy examples. While Mario Party unveils exciting new minigames and modes, Metroid allows for a PC-style shooter experience. Additionally, companies like 2K have confirmed that games such as Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 and Borderlands 4 will also support this feature. Titles like Two Point Museum and Fortnite were part of the show’s reel, appearing to be optimized for these controls.

Another intriguing revelation from Nintendo is about the mysterious C button on the Joy-Con, which is now confirmed to function as a chat app, potentially seen as Nintendo’s version of Discord.
