In Mario Kart, the line between victory and defeat often hinges on a banana peel, which can be dragged behind your kart by holding the L button to fend off dreaded turtle shells. However, during the intense and chaotic races of Mario Kart, it’s all too easy for fingers to slip, releasing your precious banana protection and leaving you exposed. In my experience, this accidental slip happens about 5-10% of the time, meaning red turtle shells hit my kart less frequently by that percentage in the highly anticipated Mario Kart World, set to launch with the Nintendo Switch 2.
Announced during the latest Nintendo Treehouse livestream, Mario Kart World introduces a significant change: items automatically enter a defensive stance once collected, eliminating the need to hold a button to keep them in position. As demonstrated by the stream hosts, these items seamlessly provide protection from those bothersome obstacles your friends might throw your way.
Additionally, this update means players can repeatedly press the item button to deploy items faster without risking the loss of any protection. This addresses a long-standing frustration from older Mario Kart games. It leads one to wonder why this innovation wasn’t introduced sooner!
Mario Kart World will debut exclusively with the Switch 2 on June 5. After some heart-pounding races, I have no doubt that the exhilarating 24-player Knockout Tour signals a real revolution in racing games.
Stay tuned for weekly digests and captivating accounts from the communities you cherish and more insights on the upcoming racer.
