With almost every superhero imaginable apparently confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, many were left puzzled by the absence of one name: Chris Pratt. During a revealing livestream that seemed as long as a combined viewing of both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, a slew of powerful beings and iconic heroes were confirmed. Yet, one familiar face was missing from the lineup.
Addressing his absence at CinemaCon, Pratt was approached by Collider and responded with humor when asked why his name wasn’t on the extensive list presented at the five-hour event. “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off. They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there,” he joked.
For some fans, the idea of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, returning in the upcoming Avengers movie seemed unlikely, particularly following his departure from his eclectic team in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, fans need not despair; Pratt is eager to fulfill a promise teased in the credits. “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return,” Pratt assured.
The speculation surrounding Quill’s potential return is accompanied by further casting confirmations that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has indicated are on the horizon. Not only was Pratt missing, but there were other prominent absentees like Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Whether or not these fan-favorites will join the ensemble in “>Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen, as the release date of May 1, 2026, approaches.
