Doctor Who is gearing up to return with its exhilarating season 2 adventures, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. This season promises an eclectic mix of episodes, ranging from future-set narratives to a unique take on an Interstellar Song Contest, reminiscent of Eurovision.

As with any season, fans will have their top picks, so GamesRadar+ asked the cast for their favorites—without revealing any spoilers. For Varada Sethu, debuting as the new companion Belinda, it’s a clear choice. Her fondness is for episode 2, set in 1950s Miami, with a cartoon character as the antagonist. She shares, “I love episode 2; it’s set in 1950s Miami. The villain’s a cartoon character! We got animated for a scene, which was so much fun. Plus, I adore my 1950s yellow dress!”

Seen in a show trailer, episode 2, titled ‘Lux‘, transforms the Doctor and Belinda into animated characters facing off against Mr Ring-a-Ding, voiced by Alan Cumming. Cumming will also reprise his role as Nightcrawler in the upcoming Marvel Avengers: Doomsday movie.

While Sethu has her preference, Gatwa is drawn towards episode 4, known as ‘Lucky Day‘. This episode diverges from the main storyline to spotlight Ruby Sunday, Millie Gibson’s former companion. Gatwa expresses, “The episode follows Ruby Sunday, and I love that. It’s so distinct from everything happening with us, a standalone film of sorts.”

This might raise eyebrows since last season had two ‘Doctor-lite’ episodes, where the Doctor scarcely appeared. One was ‘73 Yards‘ which centered on Ruby’s life without the Doctor. Fans wonder if ‘Lucky Day’ will be similar. However, Russell T Davies, the showrunner, assures fans there will be plenty of Doctor. He mentions to GamesRadar+, “We learn what happened to Ruby Sunday at home, taking us back to Earth to follow her. But fear not, the Doctor is very much there, offering a new angle on their story.”

The new Doctor Who season premieres on April 12 on Disney Plus internationally and BBC iPlayer in the UK. For what’s next on your watchlist, explore more new TV show recommendations.
