Are you having trouble snagging a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order or feeling down about the soaring game prices? Don’t worry! While a new free browser-based Pokemon game won’t eclipse the excitement of the upcoming Switch 2 titles, it can certainly entertain you for about half an hour.

On April 4, Google sprang a delightful surprise by releasing a free pseudo-game that invites you to track down and collect the original 151 Pokemon. To embark on this adventure, you need a mobile device. Start by searching for one of the OG 151 Pokemon and then click the Poke Ball icon at the bottom of the screen.

Once you’ve carried out this search, the Pokemon you looked for will appear with an adorable graphic and will be added to your ever-growing Pokedex. This Pokedex not only records your collection but also hints at the silhouettes of Pokemon you’re missing with the familiar query, “Who’s that Pokemon?” Each time you reach a milestone, you earn a Master Ball. Guess the silhouette of the Legendary Pokemon correctly to catch it. Just be sure to sign in with your Google account if you want your progress saved for later.

If you’re up for a charming memory challenge, try following the clues and silhouettes closely. However, since it’s Pokemon, there’s room for a little strategic advantage. I found myself using the ‘People Also Searched For…’ tab to quickly navigate through the Gen One Pokemons that I wasn’t as familiar with.

Although Google’s game isn’t a full-blown ‘Catch ‘Em All’ adventure, you won’t have to wait too long for Game Freak’s next major release. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is scheduled for launch later this year on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Pre-orders for the Switch 2 have been postponed in the US. According to Nintendo, this move is to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” Stay tuned for weekly updates and stories from the communities you cherish!
