Monsterpatch, the charming RPG that draws inspiration from Pokemon and Stardew Valley, has surpassed its Kickstarter goal by an impressive 1500%, accumulating $234,000 in pledges. To celebrate, the game will feature a new stretch goal, incorporating Animal Crossing-style fossils and a museum.
When we first highlighted Monsterpatch just weeks ago, it reached full funding on Kickstarter within an incredible 16 minutes, boasting around $60,000 in pledges against a quaint target of $11,597. Now, the game has nearly 20 times the backing solo creator Sean Young initially expected, highlighting the widespread enthusiasm for retro-style RPGs with creature-catching and farming elements.
Since our initial coverage, Monsterpatch has been successfully ‘catching mons’ at a remarkable rate. The campaign has unlocked eight stretch goals, expanding features such as shiny mon variants, three secret legendaries, and a highly anticipated Nintendo Switch version, which fits the game’s style perfectly.
With funding surpassing $225,000, the fossils stretch goal was unlocked, introducing excavation areas where players can dig up fossils to be appraised or showcased in the museum. Unlike Animal Crossing, this feature includes an “ancient spell” that, under certain conditions, can “bring ancient MoNs back to life.” This unique addition sounds thrilling.
There are still two more stretch goals for Monsterpatch’s supporters: the intriguing Treasure System at $250,000 and The Game Corner at $300,000. Though details remain scarce, it seems likely these targets will be reached soon, judging by the community’s enthusiasm to support the game. Monsterpatch is expected to release on Steam in 2025.
