The much-anticipated reboot of The X-Files is finally taking shape. Directed by Ryan Coogler, known for his exceptional work on Black Panther, Creed, and Sinners, the new horror TV series is set to be his next major project.
In 2023, Chris Carter, the original creator of The X-Files, disclosed Coogler’s involvement. Since then, there had been little to no updates, leading many to think it was another abandoned venture. However, Coogler recently shared on The Last Podcast on the Left that he’s ready to dive back into crafting the new show.
“I’ve been excited about this for a long time, and I’m eager to get back to it,” Coogler exclaimed. “If we do our jobs right, some episodes will be really terrifying.” For this project, he’s collaborating with Gillian Anderson, the unforgettable Special Agent Dana Scully, though her role in front of the camera remains uncertain.
“She’s absolutely incredible, and we’re hopeful,” Coogler added. “We aim to create something fantastic for die-hard X-Files enthusiasts while also attracting new fans.”
The X-Files became a defining series of the ’90s, starring Dana and her partner, Special Agent Fox Mulder, portrayed by David Duchovny. Together, they unraveled bizarre crimes tied to unexplainable phenomena, delving into deep conspiracies concerning UFOs and aliens.
After nine seasons and two films, the show returned for two additional seasons in the late 2010s. With Anderson’s departure after season 11, the show’s future looked unclear. Given its adaptable concept, a reboot with new leads seems quite logical.
With Coogler at the helm, the reboot promises a fresh take. Known for elevating franchises and pushing narratives forward, Coogler’s achievements include Black Panther, rated at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the original film Sinners, which showcases Michael B. Jordan in a dual role. Set in 1930s Mississippi, it explores the struggle of twin brothers against vampires.
A new triumph, Sinners, stands at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Discover more scares in our upcoming movies list to see what’s next on the silver screen.
