In under two weeks of its early access release, the co-op survival spin-off RuneScape: Dragonwilds is off to a phenomenal start. Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy shared insights on LinkedIn about this new game set in the world of the enduring MMO RuneScape.
The game has catapulted to the top of Steam’s best-seller roster, achieving over 600,000 copies sold in a brief span and gathering more than 13,755 user reviews on the platform, with 85% giving it a positive nod.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds now boasts a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, with numerous players applauding its intensified combat and intriguing base-building aspects. Many draw comparisons to the beloved survival game Valheim, but note the added allure of RPG elements to engross players further.
The game also achieved the status of being the third most-watched title on streaming platform Twitch. It’s notable that the typical player’s session exceeded two hours, indicating strong engagement.
Bellamy expressed his amazement at the reaction from gamers, stating, “The response from players, the RuneScape community, and the industry has surpassed even our highest hopes. It’s a testament to the unpredictable and inspiring nature of gaming. While the numbers are astounding, what fills me with pride is the team behind them… your creativity and commitment leave a mark on every facet of this game.”
Although Jagex plans to exit early access in 2026, they’ve acknowledged the fierce competition in their genre. Senior community manager Jake Blunt has pledged that future updates will focus on “things that make us unique.” For those anticipating new adventures, it’s an exciting time, not just for RuneScape: Dragonwilds but also for the array of upcoming new games of 2025 that await eager players.
