Kazutaka Kodaka, known for his innovative creations, recently released his new strategic RPG The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, but the journey has not been smooth sailing financially for the developer.

The game, which has captivated audiences, boasts over 1,400 reviews on Steam, with a remarkable 91% approval rating. Positive feedback is also evident on Metacritic and other platforms. However, these successes haven’t entirely secured the future of Too Kyo Games.

Addressing inquiries on BlueSky, a fan questioned the possibility of the game’s availability on more platforms following its initial release on PC and Nintendo Switch on April 24, 2025. Kodaka, co-director and creator, replied candidly: “If I can pay off my debt early and secure enough operating funds for the company, I’d love to get started right away. But right now, we’re still on the brink of going under.”

Previously, Kodaka articulated how Too Kyo Games incurred substantial debt while producing the game. Crafting a high school visual novel-tactical RPG hybrid with approximately 100 comprehensive endings is no small feat.

Too Kyo Games was conceived by Kodaka along with Kotaro Uchikoshi, the mind behind Zero Escape. Together, they have launched several projects, with The Hundred Line standing as their most ambitious endeavor to date. Enthusiasts hope that these visionaries can continue crafting thrilling, unpredictable experiences while achieving financial stability.

Meanwhile, delve into more new games of 2025 to discover what the future holds.
