Ben Affleck boasts an impressive array of career highlights, from starring in modern hits like Pearl Harbor and Gone Girl to embodying Batman in the DCEU. However, his most remarkable work might be his candid Armageddon DVD commentary, as he himself suggests.

“In retrospect, I now feel like perhaps my best work in my career is the commentary on this disc,” he shared in a Criterion’s Closet Picks video upon spotting Michael Bay’s thriller on display.

“Fans often speak to me about the commentary on this disc as much as they discuss the films I’ve acted in,” Affleck continued. “This is because, at the time, I didn’t know any better than to be utterly frank. However, I won’t spoil anything for those intrigued. It’s something I’m proud of, and I didn’t anticipate it would be as significant as I now deem it is.”

One of the most memorable moments in his commentary comes when Affleck critiques the logic of teaching oil drillers to become astronauts rather than vice versa. “How hard can it be? You just aim the drill at the ground and turn it on,” he remarked, candidly poking fun at his own film.

Nearly three decades later, his straightforward reflections have become a legendary part of the movie’s history, and Affleck seems delighted to embrace this legacy. “That’s one accomplishment in my career where I’m willing to congratulate myself. It might be in the top five DVD commentaries of all time,” he mentioned in a recent interview with GQ.

Ben Affleck has returned to cinema with The Accountant 2, the eagerly awaited follow-up to the 2016 blockbuster, The Accountant. The film sees stars alongside Jon Bernthal, now of Daredevil: Born Again fame, depicting his brother as they embark on a hazardous investigation against some of the fiercest antagonists.
