Dev Patel made quite an impression with his debut as a director in Monkey Man, setting high expectations for his next venture. The latest buzz, as reported by Deadline, reveals that his upcoming film, The Peasant, has been acquired by A24. This production promises to deliver thrilling action reminiscent of a medieval-time John Wick experience.
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Patel, following his prior collaboration with A24 on The Green Knight. In this new movie, audiences will see Patel as both lead actor and director, depicting a shepherd in 1300s feudal India whose life is upturned by mercenary knights. His character, eager for peace, embarks on a journey of revenge when his quiet life is shattered.
The film’s initial script was crafted by Will Dunn, known for his work on the MCU series Ms. Marvel, with Patel co-writing. Production credits go to Fifth Season and Thunder Road. The latter is celebrated for action-packed hits like the John Wick series and Monkey Man. The anticipation is high that filming will commence later this year, potentially paving the way for a new franchise rich with swords and knightly battles.
