Andor season 2 offers fans a delightful escape through the annals of Star Wars lore, bringing to light some of the saga’s most cherished and obscure references. In an unexpected twist, episode 10 of the much-loved series revisits a significant location from the prequels: Padme Amidala’s home planet of Naboo.
The episode’s creators chose to film at Hever Castle in England, a site used during the production of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. While it served as Naboo in a scene later cut from the film, it now gains a new life in the current series.
An excerpt from the official guide to Andor’s Easter eggs states, “For its Season 2 appearance, Andor production returned to a relatively unknown Naboo shooting location, Hever Castle in Kent, England.” This castle was where Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and their Gungan ally Jar Jar Binks entered the Theed Royal Palace grounds after narrowly escaping peril.
Naboo famously hosted the epic showdown in The Phantom Menace between the noble Jedi, the Gungans, and the sinister Battle Droids under the Trade Federation’s command. Andor confidently dives back into the Star Wars prequels, which have sparked diverse opinions among enthusiasts throughout the years, nodding to noteworthy moments such as the podracing scene by embellishing a fleeting shot from a 1999 game.
Andor is a fascinating prequel to a prequel, charting Cassian Andor’s journey before his pivotal involvement in Star Wars: Rogue One. This tale unfolds the precursors to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the groundbreaking original movie.
