In the captivating world of Oblivion Remastered, one dedicated player went to extraordinary lengths, involving substantial personal expense, to protect a notorious NPC during his violent spree.
In Skingrad, a Wood-Elf known as Glarthir seeks the player’s assistance with a quest aptly named ‘Paranoia’. Convinced of a conspiracy against him, Glarthir’s paranoia leads him to believe he’s under constant surveillance by his neighbors. Players face various outcomes, but should you confirm his suspicions and then refuse to assist with his vendetta, he takes matters into his own hands.
Typically, a hostile NPC disrupting the peace of a town is swiftly dealt with by Oblivion Remastered’s vigilant guards. When Glarthir attempts his rampage against three targets, his survival chances appear bleak. Enter a resourceful player ready to change the course of events.
At the climax of the Paranoia quest, Reddit user Plane-Session-6624 decided to save Glarthir. Despite trying to equip him with advanced armor, Oblivion’s mechanics blocked reverse pickpocketing, leaving Glarthir vulnerable. Seeking advice, the player revealed their plan: “I also have a Fortify 100 Strength and 100 Endurance spell for him, alongside a robust heal, but he lacks the power to fend off guards, and my magicka drains too quickly to sustain him. Suggestions?”
The next day arrived with triumphant news: “I’ve transformed Glarthir into a Super Saiyan. He has vanquished waves of guards, eliminated his adversaries…and escaped blame entirely.” Plane Session credited a spell cocktail with 70% shield, Fortify 100 Blunt and Endurance, elevated Agility, and superior healing. To maintain these enhancements, they invested “about 4k on sorcery potions.” Their overall expenditure exceeded 10,000 gold when factoring in spell crafting, magicka-boosting items, and potions.
The outcome proved impressively effective. Glarthir swiftly neutralized his first target before any guard intervention. Yet, by his second confrontation, the law had taken notice. Aided by Plane Session, Glarthir felled his second foe along with two guards, and then successfully reached his third target, defeating them as well.
All seemed well, until the reality of Glarthir’s actions sunk in: many had fallen by his hand. The player observed the aftermath, waiting four hours to observe Skingrad’s reaction to their resident serial killer. As dawn approached, “dead guards [littered] the streets.” Most NPCs distanced themselves from Glarthir, save for a few guards who met their end confronting him. After their defeat, Glarthir returned to his home, now undisturbed by threats, having sensationally evaded justice, thanks to his magical backer.
Elsewhere, players continue to explore unique strategies within Oblivion Remastered, leveraging the game’s intricacies in diverse and creative ways.
