George R.R. Martin, the renowned creator of Game of Thrones, is partnering with Lion Forge Entertainment to embark on an exciting endeavor—producing a new animated movie centered around the legendary 12 labors of Hercules (or Heracles, as he is known in Greek mythology). This intriguing project was revealed in a report by THR.
The animated film, titled A Dozen Tough Jobs, adapts the 1989 novel written by Howard Waldrop. It reimagines the 12 seemingly impossible tasks, initially imposed upon Hercules by the mythical King Eurystheus, in a setting that transposes the hero’s tale to the 1920s in Mississippi. Here, Hercules becomes a sharecropper battling prejudice and adversity.
The screenplay will be crafted by Joe R. Lansdale, known for his work on Bubba Ho-Tep. The visual artistry will come from the talents of the Blue Spirit, an Emmy-winning French animation studio celebrated for Blue-Eyed Samurai.
In the words of David Steward II, CEO of Lion Forge Entertainment, “If anyone understands the power of epic stories and expansive franchises, it’s George R.R. Martin. With A Dozen Tough Jobs, we’re reimagining a timeless legend through fresh, culturally rich lenses. This isn’t just a retelling—it’s a groundbreaking take, unlike anything audiences have seen before, grounded in history but pushing myth into uncharted territory.”
