Update: The Elden Ring Nightreign player count has now reached over 306,000 players and appears to be climbing steadily. After launching, the game soared to over 250,000 players on Steam alone within just 30 minutes.

According to our live coverage of the Elden Ring Nightreign launch, Steam Charts logged the count at 255,867 around 23:30 BST—almost precisely half an hour post-launch. To put this in context, it represents more than a quarter of Elden Ring‘s record peak of 953,000 players. In fact, it surpasses the peaks of Dark Souls 2, 3, and Remastered combined, which total approximately 225,000 concurrent players.

Nightreign certainly has an edge. Being a multiplayer game inherently boosts its concurrent player numbers by fostering group play. However, despite this advantage, it received lower reviews than its predecessor, potentially affecting sales negatively. Moreover, its unique genre blend could initially deter some fans.

Our Elden Ring Nightreign review highlighted these aspects, and while the early user reviews on Steam are favorable, they illustrate that Nightreign is quite different from Elden Ring. It’s intriguing to speculate how Nightreign will ultimately be received, especially since console launches are pending in many parts of North America and the release timing is quite unconventional. It might take several days to ascertain its true impact.
