The announcement of Moonlighter 2 during the Future Games Show was a dream come true for those of us who adored the first installment. Digital Sun is taking things up a notch with Moonlighter 2: The Endless Dungeon, promising a fresh take on what made the original so captivating.
The team at FGS sat down with the minds behind the game to explore how the sequel sets itself apart. Luis Pérez, the design director, mentioned, “What we’ve tried with Moonlighter 2 is bring everything that’s special about the first game, and try to upgrade it, to update it, make it more polished and more fitting.” This game is designed to draw back both new and seasoned adventurers to its enchanting universe.
Returning players will notice an exciting change; though the aesthetic identity of Moonlighter is retained, this iteration boasts a stunning 3D visual upgrade. The game continues with its engaging premise: by night, dive into dungeons in a roguelike adventure to collect valuable treasures; by day, transform into a savvy merchant, curating a shop and haggling with diverse customers.
Enhanced gameplay involves carefully deciding on the store’s arrangement, attracting a variety of shoppers, and ultimately aiding the surrounding town’s growth. A prosperous community equals greater profits, adding an enticing layer to the mercantile aspect of the game.
Digital Sun introduces an enriched combat system in Moonlighter 2, raising the stakes compared to its predecessor. The game’s marketing lead, Israel Mallén, described it as an irresistible mix for fans, stating, “If you love Hades and how it’s played, and you grew up playing Wind Waker, then you have the perfect title here.”
Due for release on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC this summer, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Dungeon is available for wishlist on Steam. For more stellar games showcased at today’s Future Games Show, be sure to check out our official Steam page.
