If you’re familiar with any of the Terrifier movies, then you’ll recognize the chilling antics of Art the murder clown, infamous for committing unspeakable acts using anything he gets his hands on. Turning this concept into a game is a daunting task, but Terrifier: The ARTcade Game manages it with a retro co-op beat-em-up style. Bashing someone to a pulp with a spiked club is oddly satisfying when portrayed in pixel art.
The game stays true to the films, delivering a retro fighting beat ’em up experience brimming with gore and dark comedy, inspired by the dynamic arcade action of the 80s and 90s. You can step into the shoes of Art or other familiar characters from the series such as Vicky or the Pale Girl, as you fight through a variety of locations modeled as movie sets for a film about Art. Of course, Art’s not around to assist with the production, so you’ll need to disrupt with maximum brutality and bloodshed.
You’ll be armed to the teeth to confront Hollywood, wielding an arsenal of weapons like chainsaws, cleavers, and clubs, alongside environmental items. Plus, there’s a suite of terrifying attacks and finishing moves to leave a lasting, gruesome impact—just the way Art likes it.
Challenge yourself solo or team up with up to three friends in a classic four-player arcade battle. Take on waves of enemies, face off in boss battles, and explore various modes, including story, wave-based challenges, versus mode, time attacks, and a boss rush, promising hours of chaotic fun.
Experience a slice of this bloody escapade right now with a new demo available on Steam and PS5. If you’re an Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch player, stay tuned as it’s coming to these platforms soon.
