Matthew McConaughey is gearing up to take on a role in a film adaptation based on the famed Mike Hammer detective novels, crafted by the legendary True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto.

As reported by Variety, details around this exciting project remain sparse, with a director yet to be announced. Mike Hammer, a hard-boiled detective first brought to life in the 1947 novel I, the Jury, continues to capture imaginations through 22 novels and five feature-length films. This literary saga is set to conclude this year with the release of Baby It’s Murder.

Fans will recall McConaughey’s compelling portrayal of Detective Rustin “Rust” Cohle alongside Woody Harrelson as Detective Martin “Marty” Hart in the inaugural season of True Detective, which premiered on HBO in 2014. This engrossing tale unfolded over dual timelines, beginning with the dynamic duo as young detectives in 1995, diving into the investigation of Dora Lange’s murder, and re-emerging 17 years later when a chilling link to unsolved missing-person cases is discovered.

Pizzolatto helmed the first three seasons of True Detective as showrunner. Although Issa Lopez took the reins for seasons 4 and the forthcoming season 5, Pizzolatto remains a pivotal figure in the series’ legacy. His talents were also enlisted for the rewrite of Marvel’s Blade script, a project currently on an indefinite pause.

The Mike Hammer film marks a significant reunion for McConaughey and Pizzolatto since their collaboration in 2014, although its release date remains undisclosed.
