Jurassic World Rebirth, hailed as a ‘standalone sequel’, breathes new life into the iconic series that began with Jurassic Park back in 1993. According to Scarlett Johansson, this entry marks a genuine fresh start, not just in name.
“To me, this film feels truly unique. It stands as its own piece,” shares Johansson, who takes on the role of covert operative Zora in the movie. She is among the select few recruited for a top-secret mission involving prehistoric creatures. Speaking with GamesRadar+, she asserts, “You hope this film can hold its own without relying on previous installments and doesn’t need to reach beyond itself.”
Set five years after the events of 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, the seventh installment wipes the slate clean with an entirely new cast and fresh jurassic discoveries. Unlike the previous three Jurassic World films, no legacy characters make appearances, though there is a brief nod to a significant figure.
The story unfolds in a world drastically transformed from the one depicted in Dominion. Dinosaurs are slowly disappearing, except in a few secluded tropical havens. Johansson elaborates, “Although the film is titled Rebirth, the team— including director Gareth Edwards, producer Frank Marshall, and executive producer Steven Spielberg— aimed to create a standalone masterpiece.”
As a devoted fan of the Jurassic universe, Johansson acknowledges the exciting nods to Steven’s classic movies. “This film offers numerous nostalgic Easter eggs,” she continues, “If you haven’t seen any other Jurassic films, this is the one. That’s our ambition.”
