Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is officially returning for a second season as a standalone series on Netflix, featuring some of the original creative team. This thrilling continuation promises another “standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077 – a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.”

According to CD Projekt Red’s announcement blog, the central theme revolves around life in a city thriving under the harsh glare of violence: “In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”

The talented Kai Ikarashi returns as director, and Kanno Ichigo reprises the role of the lead character designer for a new delve into Night City. Familiar faces such as Masahiko Otsuka and Bartosz Sztybor, respected for their work on Gurren Lagann and Promare, also return as collaborators. Sztybor additionally takes on the role of showrunner, story writer, and producer.

Partnerships continue with the enthusiastic involvement of Studio Trigger alongside CD Projekt Red. Although progress specifics remain mostly undisclosed, it is clear the season is “now in production with a planned release on Netflix in the future.”

For those curious about the fate of David Martinez, the first season’s tragic protagonist, CDPR confirms: “David is dead. But Night City lives on.” This doesn’t entirely rule out the appearance of characters like Lucy, but it suggests a truly standalone narrative.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is eagerly anticipated with the announcement of its production. To fans’ delight, it showcases a completely fresh storyline characterized by intense episodes of redemption and revenge. CD Projekt’s Twitter feed teases: “What extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”

The announcement is complemented by a striking first poster, hinting at new faces—a ragtag group that interestingly includes a child, an occurrence not unprecedented in the chaotic world of Night City.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.3 is undergoing a delay as CD Projekt endeavors to ensure the update meets expectations, following successful patches like 2.2. Stay tuned for more adventures and updates from the Cyberpunk universe!
