After a long wait of 14 years, fans of Doctor John Dorian from Scrubs have reason to rejoice with the iconic sitcom set to make a vibrant return. A fresh season is in the pipeline, bringing the beloved series back to the screen.
Deadline reports that Zach Braff will reprise his role as J.D., alongside his former co-stars, Donald Faison as Dr. Christopher Turk and Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid. While Braff’s return was confirmed back in May, these actors are the initial confirmations for the new series. Behind the scenes, several familiar figures are slated to revive the magic of Sacred Heart Hospital.
The mastermind behind Scrubs, Bill Lawrence, who also created the hit Ted Lasso, will rejoin as an executive producer. Meanwhile, the operations will be overseen by Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra as both showrunners and executive producers. These seasoned writers are no strangers to the show’s legacy, having contributed significantly during its initial run.
Unlike previous ventures into Med School, the story is set to take us back to the cherished Sacred Heart Hospital. This change opens doors for the return of other original staff members. Buzz about Judy Reyes returning as Carla Espinosa, Faison’s on-screen wife and head nurse, is already making rounds. Of course, all hinges on scheduling magic aligning just right.
Sharing his excitement, Lawrence noted in August that it would be engaging not only to revisit these characters he adored but also to explore what young doctors face today. Fans can throw on their scrubs next year when the series officially makes its comeback.
