Jason Momoa has officially confirmed his comeback as Duncan Idaho in Dune 3. If you’re considering this a spoiler, Momoa isn’t too concerned. “I’m making a comeback,” he playfully disclosed during an appearance on TODAY. “Whether I get in trouble for saying this is yet to be seen, but if you’re familiar with Game of Thrones, you get it,” he remarked. “If you didn’t read the books, it’s on you, right? Yes, there’s going to be… I’m making a return.”

In the first installment, Duncan Idaho, a master swordsman for House Atreides and mentor to Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet), heroically sacrificed himself to safeguard Paul and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). Their escape from the Emperor’s formidable Sardaukar troops marked a pivotal moment. However, those familiar with Frank Herbert’s novels know that death is not necessarily the end for Duncan Idaho. In Dune Messiah, he returns as a ghola, a clone created by the Tleilaxu, a rejuvenation not yet explored in the films.

Dune 3 is set to start filming this summer, though a release date remains under wraps. Meanwhile, Momoa is diving into other projects, such as the upcoming Minecraft Movie. In it, he stars as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, a human trapped in the game’s blocky universe, alongside stars like Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, and Danielle Brooks.

The Minecraft Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 4. While you wait, explore our guide to future video game-based films coming in 2025 and beyond, and stay updated with all the freshest movie news, features, and reviews delivered right to your inbox.
