On Steam, a new horror game has subtly captured attention, achieving Overwhelmingly Positive reviews and ranking high across several distinct genres.
Easily one of the best Survival Horror RPGs ever made.
One of the best if not the best cosmic horror experiences that you can have in gaming.
Look Outside is quite simply put one of the best turn-based RPGs made in the last years.
This game belongs in the podium of best turn-based indie RPGs ever made, alongside Omori and Undertale.
Look Outside deserves to feature in conversations alongside gaming horror greats like Silent Hill 2 or Resident Evil.
The Best $10 You’ll Ever Spend
According to community tales and weekly digests, the unheralded indie RPG Look Outside astonishes many, rivaling the most revered games in at least three genres. Intrigued by its acclaim, I succumbed to curiosity and added it to my Steam library, preparing for a weekend dive.
The game’s plot is deliciously simple yet frightening: Within a lone apartment building, a mysterious plague turns gazers into a plethora of 150 hand-crafted Lovecraftian abominations. Equipped with determination, you brave the boundaries of your safe apartment to unearth food, supplies, weapons, and the mysteries shrouding the chaos.
Once back in your privacy, you’ve reached your sanctuary where you can examine gathered materials and unwind by playing games, preparing meals, crafting tools, and bonding with neighbors turned allies.
Look Outside even allows you to recruit some of these bizarre creatures to support you in combat, akin to a twisted version of Pokemon. With items at your disposal, you can craft makeshift weaponry for use in turn-based battles throughout the roughly 10-12 hour adventure—a remarkable length in today’s bustling gaming arena.
If for nothing else, I am compelled to explore how a game can be mentioned alongside Lovecraft, Undertale, Omori, Silent Hill, Fear & Hunger, Junji Ito, Lisa, and Earthbound, without descending into chaos. Halloween seems to have arrived early in Gerblick household.
As the debut project from indie developer Francis Coulombe, Look Outside is currently exclusive to Steam. Whether it will truly earn a place among the greatest horror games is something only time will reveal.
