Nintendo has put to rest the swirling rumors, confirming that Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games include both the original and the next-gen upgrade on one card. This clarification came via a statement to Vooks, dispelling myths that these boxes were mere holders for Switch 1 cards with download codes.

The confusion erupted when a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition box hinted at including the original game and the upgrade pack, with the latter being separately available. A customer service note further muddled the waters by suggesting the deluxe versions contained only the next-gen code. Thankfully, this isn’t the case, and Nintendo is making strides to ensure accessibility to Nintendo Switch 2 content without unnecessary hurdles.

If download codes were tied to the old cards, buying or selling pre-owned copies would have been problematic without shelling out extra for an upgrade pack. This concern was significant for game preservation enthusiasts wary of how future gamers could access additional content if the Switch 2 eShop ever closed. First-party titles from Nintendo are steering clear of these issues altogether.

The notion of Switch 2 Editions stirred debate, particularly given that Nintendo is monetizing technical enhancements for select few original Switch games. However, titles like Super Mario Party Jamboree and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are set to introduce brand-new content, offering more value. Besides these, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond join the lineup of announced Switch 2 Edition games.

For existing owners of these games on the original Nintendo Switch, a simple upgrade fee lets you enjoy enhancements on the new console. Titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Pokemon Scarlet & Violet offer free upgrades, providing extra excitement at no additional cost.

Exciting times await, with a slew of upcoming Switch 2 games on the horizon as the console gears up for its big release on June 5. Keep an eye out for the latest updates and join communities from around the world in anticipation of this new gaming era.
