Just after its exciting debut, Netflix‘s Devil May Cry animated series is gearing up for a second season. Showrunner Adi Shankar brings the celebrated Capcom video games to life, where the main hero, Dante, engages in thrilling battles with increasingly formidable demonic adversaries.

The inaugural season, comprising 8 episodes, has garnered acclaim from both critics and audiences. It premiered at number 4 on Netflix’s global top ten list and boasts a commendable 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix provides a vivid description of the series: “In this animated adaptation of the beloved Capcom game and guided by Adi Shankar’s vision, ominous forces are intent on breaking the barrier between human and demon realms. In the midst of this chaos is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, oblivious to the fact that the destiny of both worlds rests on his shoulders.”

Season one of Devil May Cry features poignant posthumous contributions from actors Kevin Conroy, renowned for voicing Batman in Batman: The Animated Series, and Tony Todd, famous for his role as Candyman in the iconic ’90s horror film.

In a candid conversation with GamesRadar+ prior to the release of the first season, Shankar shared his vision: “My goals were threefold. The initial anime adopted a monster of the week format until culminating in an arc. This time, I aspired to create a narrative akin to a colossal Hollywood blockbuster from 1999 to 2004. Think The Matrix, Underworld, Bad Boys, Equilibrium — and many more. I wanted fans to experience Devil May Cry through that cinematic lens.”

Although the release date for the second season remains unannounced, fans eagerly await more adventures. Stay informed about upcoming anime here, including insights into One-Punch Man season 3 and Frieren season 2.
