The journey to release for Hollow Knight Silksong has gained notoriety over the years, as fans have been left waiting and eagerly anticipating its arrival. The good news is, this wait may soon be over, as it’s said that Silksong is set to launch this year. In a parallel development, another project, a mod for Hollow Knight, has also emerged from silence.

Hollow Knight: The Sanctuary, an ambitious fan-crafted mod, made waves back in 2021 with a stylish trailer when it was first revealed. Now, nearly four years later and coinciding with the recent update on Silksong, lead modder Stizzl has shed new light on this extensive project. Responding to rumors about its possible cancellation, Stizzl tweeted: “A secret, well-kept over the years: The Sanctuary is alive,” sharing an exhilarating clip of its rapid, combative platforming.

Following a call for playtesters, Stizzl expressed gratitude saying, “Thank you to the manyyyyy people who have already applied to become a playtester. For now, we will not need any more applications but we hope you will stay tuned to learn more about this mod in the coming weeks!” Find more about mod workshops here.

The Sanctuary is set to transport players to a new domain filled with fresh allies, adversaries, and possibly epic boss encounters. This mega-mod promises novel music tracks, challenging platforming segments, and a poignant narrative focusing on the bug-people seeking sanctuary. When initially announced, it seemed like an ideal pastime while awaiting Silksong. Now that Team Cherry’s sequel has a targeted release of 2025, enthusiast anticipation for all things Hollow Knight has certainly paid off—indeed, you can never have too much of this beloved game.

Nintendo has been really good at supporting us,” noted the developers at Team Cherry, reflecting on their enduring relationship with Nintendo. Given this partnership, it’s no surprise that Silksong is set to debut on the Switch 2. For weekly updates, community stories, and more on Hollow Knight, explore here.
