Hats off to Todd Howard and the talented team at Bethesda Game Studios behind The Elder Scrolls. They’ve pulled off another remarkable feat with yet another release of Skyrim… kind of.
The saga of porting, remastering, and re-releasing Skyrim has reached meme status. So, when I encountered images on social media showcasing the majestic Throat of the World summit visible in Oblivion Remastered—absent from the original 2006 RPG—I could only smile and say: Well played, Todd. You’ve done it once more, you incredible visionary!
It’s true—numerous Reddit and Twitter posts confirm that from the northernmost point of Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered, astute hikers can catch a glimpse of Tamriel’s tallest mountain. In the hazy distance, the recognizable silhouette of the Throat of the World beckons.
This delightful touch brings a new sense of continuity, linking Cyrodiil and Skyrim, enhancing the feeling that Tamriel is one vast, interconnected realm. As a fan of Elder Scrolls Online, I must dutifully mention that you can traverse both Cyrodiil and Skyrim, along with more of Tamriel, in a singular, expansive game.
The towering mountain isn’t the only element Oblivion Remastered borrowed from The Elder Scrolls V. There’s also a spell akin to a “magical breadcrumb trail” guiding players toward quests and objectives.
Oblivion Remastered spent four years in development. Despite significant alterations, Bethesda assures it’s not a remake: “We never wanted to remake it,” they assert confidently. Stay tuned for weekly updates, stories from your beloved communities, and much more.
