Jade Raymond, the creative mind behind Assassin’s Creed, has unexpectedly parted ways with Haven Studios, the company she founded in collaboration with PlayStation just four years ago. This move comes as a surprise to many, especially since Sony has not officially communicated the reasons for her exit to the staff.
As reported by Bloomberg, Raymond’s departure occurred shortly after an external test of the studio’s inaugural project, Fairgames. Concerns had been mounting regarding the public reception of this Payday-like shooter, timing with Sony’s resistance to their live-service approach due to past setbacks such as the Concord debacle last year.
Just last month, optimism surrounded Fairgames, with positive internal chatter suggesting favorable outcomes for the game. However, whether the enthusiasm was misplaced or if alignment issues between internal and external expectations were at play remains uncertain. Nonetheless, Raymond’s exit signifies a challenging moment for Haven Studios.
Having been integral in the genesis of Assassin’s Creed at Ubisoft, Raymond’s recent tenure hasn’t mirrored those formative successes. Leading up to her time at Haven, she was associated with Stadia, Google’s terminated game-streaming platform, which met its end after a brief stint.
Despite these developments, the gaming community fondly remembers the groundbreaking experiences brought about by Assassin’s Creed. Dive back into the golden days with our curated list of the top Assassin’s Creed games.
