It appears that developers at CD Projekt Red have been so engrossed in creating The Witcher 4 that they’re unconsciously using its fresh control scheme while engaging with other games.
During the celebration of The Witcher 3’s 10-year milestone, teams of veteran CDPR developers gathered to share insights and delve into the game, providing engaging commentary during their playthroughs. At one amusing moment, narrative director Philipp Weber found himself perplexed with a giant, unsure of the correct dodge-roll button:
“How do I do a proper roll again, it’s just jump?” Weber inquired.
“It’s A,” replied level design lead Miles Tost.
“Since when?”
“Since always.”
“Noooo!”
“Yes.”
“I’m actually using Witcher 4 controls…spoiler.”
Having entered full-scale production last November, the development of The Witcher 4 is now well beyond the brainstorming phase. The team is actively constructing the world, fine-tuning mechanics, shaping characters, and crafting the story. With intense hands-on interaction with the development kit, it seems a novel control format is emerging, distinctly different from that of The Witcher 3.
As anticipations rise for The Witcher 4, fans are advised to temper their expectations regarding CDPR’s new collaboration with Summer Game Fest. Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski recently appeared to temper speculation that the sequel might make an appearance at the major summer gaming event. He remarked that the spotlight is currently on the forthcoming launch of Cyberpunk 2077: Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2.
Interestingly, The Witcher 3’s developers had been clear from the start in 2014 about their vision for Ciri as the protagonist in the exciting upcoming sequel.
