Elden Ring: Nightreign is quickly becoming the most debated FromSoftware game in recent times, reminiscent of the studio’s earlier, enigmatic releases. Its Steam reviews spotlight concerns ranging from a 60fps cap to missing duo support. Despite the criticisms, 2 million players have explored its realm, receiving heartfelt appreciation from producer Yasuhiro Kitao.
In a statement linked to the game’s day-one sales milestone, Kitao acknowledges, “Nightreign has some peculiar aspects to its game design and is different from our recent titles in various ways.” Expressing gratitude, he states, “Nonetheless, many of you have bravely jumped into this world, and for that we’re immensely grateful.”
FromSoftware’s games often require an acquired taste, a phenomenon seen between Dark Souls and Elden Ring. “As with Demon’s Souls or Sekiro,” Kitao reflects, “it may be confounding at first, but just like those games, Nightreign offers its own challenges and experiences.”
Once players navigate the initial complexities, Kitao believes Nightreign offers a distinct sense of accomplishment. “We hope you enjoy it,” he adds. The real enjoyment, he suggests, will become evident with time as the community continues to engage.
Currently, consensus is divided, with Nightreign targeting a broader, more multiplayer-centric audience than past releases. Its success is crucial as FromSoftware prepares to launch The Duskbloods, a major multiplayer Switch 2 adventure on the horizon. Both titles aim for triumph in this evolving genre.
