Simu Liu shared his astonishment after reading the glowing review from Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed director of Death Stranding, for his new underwater thriller, Last Breath. “I’m absolutely floored,” Liu exclaimed, expressing what an “incredible honor” it is to be acknowledged by Kojima.

The Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star quote-tweeted Kojima, who candidly admitted the film made him “cry again and again.” Kojima described his experience watching LAST BREATH (2025) during a flight. The movie, based on a true story, follows a gripping saturation diver accident amid an undersea pipeline repair, maintaining a relentless feeling of claustrophobia and tension.

He further praised the film, saying, “Everyone who risks their life without hesitation to save a fellow crewmate is just so cool.” Highlighting Simu Liu’s performance, Kojima noted, “No superpowers, no kung fu—just pure human heroism.” The film, which also stars Woody Harrelson, has received positive feedback, currently holding a 79% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Directed by Alex Parkinson and co-written with Mitchell LaFortune and David Brooks, the movie features a talented ensemble, including Cliff Curtis from The Meg, MyAnna Buring from The Witcher, and Finn Cole from Peaky Blinders.

It’s not surprising that Kojima has heaped praise on this film, given his penchant for powerful narratives and spectacular action. In addition to Last Breath, Kojima has recently commended titles such as Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, A Quiet Place: Day One, Dune: Part Two, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Kojima’s all-time favorite films reveal his love for impactful storytelling, citing classics like Taxi Driver, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low. To discover other thrilling releases, explore our guide to the most exciting upcoming movies.
