In the year 2025, it’s hard to ignore that the beloved Legend of Zelda hero, Link, especially his post-Breath of the Wild version, exudes a definitive twink vibe. However, Nintendo seems less willing to embrace this notion, as illustrated by a player’s recent misadventure with Nintendo’s support system over a playful username.
Reddit user Funaoe24 shared their frustration: “I let everyone in my family use my Nintendo Switch 2 system, including my sister, who recently changed her username to Twink Link. This led to a full console ban, preventing us from accessing any Nintendo services.” This ban means losing access to online services such as the eShop and stored digital games unless previously installed.
Despite contacting support, Funaoe24 notes, “The guy over the phone was laughing at the username,” indicating at least a sense of humor from Nintendo’s side. The name, flirtatiously touching on queer culture with the term ‘twink’, doesn’t seem harsh enough to warrant a ban. Many commenters speculated the ban might relate to other issues, like using a MIG Flash cartridge, hinted at by the user’s modding activity on earlier consoles like the 3DS and Switch 1.
Funaoe24 insists, “I’ve spoken with Nintendo support for hours, and even they don’t know the cause. It’s being escalated, and they believe it’s quite likely I’ll be unbanned once they receive the necessary approval.” The ban saga might not capture everyone’s attention, but it certainly adds an unexpected twist.
In a world that often drifts towards the mundane, embracing the whimsical tale of the Twink Link ban provides a little extra joy. After all, isn’t there something delightful about the image of a Nintendo support representative chuckling over our twinky hero?
